SimSmsBox Short answer: Telegram cannot recover your cloud password — it never stores it in readable form. With a recovery email you reset it in minutes. Without one, the only route is a 7-day account reset that deletes the account, including every cloud chat in it. There is no support ticket that skips this.
Almost everyone hitting this page has confused two different secrets, so start there.
Two different secrets

Two-Step Verification adds the second one. The point is that acquiring your number is no longer enough to take the account — which is exactly why it matters if you registered with a number from a shared pool.

”Password invalid” when you are sure it is right
Before assuming it is lost, rule these out:
- Keyboard layout and autocorrect. Mobile keyboards capitalise first characters and swap quotes. Type it into a plain text field first and check it character by character.
- A password manager entry that predates a change. If you changed it and the manager did not update, you are entering the old one.
- Confusing it with your Telegram Passport password, which is a separate thing.
- A trailing space pasted from a note.
- The wrong account. If you have two numbers, you may be entering the other account’s password.
Telegram compares against a hash. There is no partial match and no “close enough”.
With a recovery email
If you added one when enabling Two-Step Verification:
- On the password prompt, tap Forgot password?
- Telegram emails a recovery code to that address.
- Enter it, set a new password, and you are in. Chats are untouched.
Check spam, and check whether the address still exists — an old work address you no longer control is the same as having no recovery email at all.
Without a recovery email
The only remaining option is Reset Account, and it is worth being blunt about what it does.
- You request the reset from the password screen.
- Telegram enforces a 7-day waiting period. This is a security delay, and nothing shortens it.
- Any login to an existing session during those 7 days cancels the reset — which is the point, since a real owner would notice and stop it.
- After 7 days, the account is deleted and the number is freed. You then register fresh on the same number.
What you lose: every cloud chat, saved messages, channels you owned, sticker sets, contacts stored in the account. What survives: nothing, other than the number itself and any messages that exist on other people’s devices.
Groups and channels are the sharp edge. If you are the sole owner of a channel, it does not transfer — promote a second admin now, not after.
What Telegram support cannot do
- It cannot read, reset, or bypass your password.
- It cannot shorten the 7 days.
- It cannot restore chats after the reset.

Setting it up so this never happens
Add a recovery email, and use one you will still control in five years. This is the entire difference between a five-minute reset and losing the account.
Add a hint that helps you and nobody else. “The usual one” is useless to an attacker and to you. Reference something specific.
Store it in a password manager, not in Saved Messages — which live inside the account you would be locked out of.
Promote a second admin on any channel or group you care about.
Keep the registration number alive. Even with the password, a new-device login still needs a code sent to that number. If it came from a per-code activation, it is already gone — renting a foreign phone number covers the alternative.
Should you turn it on at all
Yes, and more so if you did not register with your own personal SIM.
Without a cloud password, whoever controls the number controls the account. Pool numbers get reassigned; carrier numbers get recycled, as described in recycled phone numbers and security. The password is the only thing standing between a number changing hands and your account changing hands with it.

Wrapping up
With a recovery email this is a five-minute problem; without one it costs the account and seven days. Telegram genuinely cannot recover the password, so the decision that matters was made when you enabled Two-Step Verification and either did or did not add an email.
